Has any actor assembled an incredible body of work as Leonardo DiCaprio? Working alongside the best in the field from Quentin Tarantino to multiple collaborations with Martin Scorcese, his films have all been both critically and commercially well received.
No stranger to amassing critical acclaim right from his early days starring on Kirk Cameron and Alan Thicke (yes, father of Robin Thicke of Bill Cosby anthem “Blurred Lines” fame) sitcom “Growing Pains” . He even managed to outshine a gifted actor like Johnny Depp in “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape”. So why has the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Science passed him over?
Mr DiCaprio has shown his commitment to his art by playing varied roles. He has never worried about his image as a heartthrob and even played the villain in Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained”. So why the constant Oscars snubs?
Could it have something to do with his off screen persona as a lothario? Perhaps it’s his aggressive support of ex-Vice President of the United States AL Gore and fight against Global Warming. If it is they need to stop letting petty personal matters affect their admiration of the man.
Leonardo DiCaprio will try again later this year to earn an Oscars in 2016 with his part in “The Revenant”. This time he is aided by newly crowned Best Director Alejandro G. Iñárritu who helmed Michael Keaton meta flick “Birdman”. In “The Revenant” Leonardo DiCaprio plays explorer Hugh Glass who is left for dead by members of his own hunting team after he is savagely attacked by a bear. Motivated by the love for his family and determined to exact revenge on those who betrayed him Hugh Glass must battle and overcome the grueling winter wilderness. He is also joined by Tom Hardy who finally delivered a somewhat solo hit (it was truly more of Charlize Theron’s show) in “Mad Max: Fury Road”.
