No, it’s not IMAX. Quentin Tarantino, long time supporter of shooting movies the old fashioned way (i.e. on film), is giving the format one last hurrah with his latest “The Hateful Eight”. His second motion picture set in the Wild Wild West after the incredible “Django Unchained” was shot in 70mm Ultra Panavision 70 format. The last movie to rely on this format was Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2012 “The Master”.
Check out the first teaser trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s “The Hateful Eight” on alcaTsar blog:
Unfortunately, the first teaser trailer for “The Hateful Eight” doesn’t capture the majesty of shooting such breathtaking sights on 70mm film stock. Infact nothing on screen really makes this seem as exciting as his previous works such as “Inglourious Bastards”. This is however just a teaser so I’m still optimistic the end product will be consistent with the rest of his incredible movies.
“The Hateful Eight” trailer does seem like a throwback to his breakout movie “Reservoir Dogs” with it set in a contained environment, a cabin where our cast seek refuge from the wicked winter. Not to mention someone in their midst who isn’t who he says he is. Wonder who that is. Any guesses?

Quentin Tarantino’s “The Hateful Eight” Synopsis:
While racing toward the town of Red Rock in post-Civil War Wyoming, bounty hunter John “The Hangman” Ruth (Kurt Russell) and his fugitive prisoner (Jennifer Jason Leigh) encounter another bounty hunter (Samuel L. Jackson) and a man (Walton Goggins) who claims to be a sheriff. Hoping to find shelter from a blizzard, the group travels to a stagecoach stopover located on a mountain pass. There, they encounter four strangers, and soon learn that they may not make it to their destination after all.
