As modern as India is today they’re still a culture very much steeped in traditional practices. Even with a diverse mix of races and religions each section of the population tries its best to respect its traditions. Some said traditions may be deemed chauvinistic especially when it relates to actresses maintaing a career post-marriage.
Blame is often put on husbands who won’t let their actress wives return to frolicking on-screen with dashing heartthrobs but there could be many other reasons. Women are often seen as homemakers in Indian society. Could it be they themselves choose to devote their time and energy to the household?
One look at statistics and you’d be hard pressed not to agree that actresses aren’t embraced by moviegoers upon their return. Celebrated A-List stars such as Madhuri, Karishma Kapoor and even Kajol have failed to reignite their box-office presence. Maybe Indian men lose interest for the fantasy of romancing a married woman is wrought with guilty feelings.
Yet, time and time again we have actresses trying to make that big comeback. Former beauty queen and forever beautiful Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is the latest to attempt this feat. Will she succeed with “Jazbaa” directed by the always “inspired” Sanjay Gupta?
As with most of his movies this too is inspired by an existing movie. South Korean movie “Seven Days” lays the groundwork for “Jazbaa” which sees Aiswarya Rai in the role of the lawyer blackmailed into freeing a convicted rapist.
Gupta has never failed in the style department. His latest looks to fare the same although I don’t understand the green hue prevalent through most of this trailer. Has he crafted a thrilling thriller? Will Irrfan Khan’s overacting be applauded by the hoi polloi or shredded by everyone? We’ll have to wait and find out when “Jazbaa” opens in Indian cinemas on the 9th of October 2015.

Anuradha Verma is a prominent lawyer, who has yet to lose a case. While Anuradha is taking part in a parents-only race at her daughter’s field day, her daughter disappears.
Later in the day, she receives a phone call from the man who abducted her daughter. The man makes it clear that he is not interested in her money. Rather, he tells her that the only way she will ever see her daughter again is to defend a five-time convicted felon who is appealing his conviction for rape and murder.
“Jazbaa” (translation: Passion) is an upcoming Indian action-drama film directed by Sanjay Gupta. It stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead role, with Irrfan Khan and Shabana Azmi in supporting roles. It is a remake of the 2007 South Korean film “Seven Days”. The film will also be released in Tamil.
