Assassin's Creed behind-the-scenes making of feature

Go behind-the-scenes of Assassin’s Creed movie starring Michael Fassbender

Movie Trailer Cast & Crew Information Release Date Plot Summary

Having just watched and reviewed “Warcraft”, my confidence in the ability of filmmakers to make a decent adaptation of a video game isn’t very high. Which is why I hope fans of the “Assassin’s Creed” franchise will be forgiving if I’m not optimistic about the Michael Fassbender led adaptation.

The first trailer for “Assassin’s Creed” looked promising and after watching this behind-the-scenes making of featurette nobody would doubt you if you thought it possesses all the ingredients to be both a critical and commercial success. Great cast? Check. Good looking action scenes. Check. An interesting and novel premise? Check. Still my apprehension isn’t unwarranted.

After all we’ve had countless bad video game adaptations. Some even had the chance to do it twice within a span of a few years and still botched things up.

Besides the aforementioned spotty history of the genre there’s also director Justin Kurzel. Besides helming last years universally acclaimed “Macbeth” (also starring Fassbender) he hasn’t done any major studio pictures. That isn’t to doubt his capabilities behind the camera but more so his ability to bring his own unique sensibilities to a large studio picture like this.

By now we’ve slowly seen more of the visuals and some of the performances, namely Marion Cotillard and Jeremy Irons and for the most part everything looks both inline with the game franchise and potentially exciting as a cinematic experience. Still, having been burnt in the past, I’ll approach with caution.
