Avengers: Age of Ultron
Director
:
Joss Whedon
Cast
:
Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L. Jackson
Synopsis
:
The follow-up to 2012’s game changing “Avengers” finally arrives in cinemas this May. The super team is now faced with the challenge of going against Ultron, a sentient being created by one of their own. Director Joss Whedon returns so expect quick wit and his trademark character moments. Joining the cast are also Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen as brother-sister duo Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.
Love her or hate her Reese Witherspoon is back with a new comedy this summer after spending some time sharpening her dramatic chops. She’s joined here by Hollywood’s current favourite “strong accented” actress Sofia Vergara. The premise, a cop trying to protect a witness from the mob, isn’t anything to write home about but hopefully they’ll offer laughs aplenty.
Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Zoë Kravitz
Synopsis
:
The latest Mad Max comes some 30 years (!!!!) after 1985’s “Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome”. Doubt many in the current generation even know who the character is. Wisely his creator, the eclectic George Miller, decides against the current trend of reboots and prequels and takes the James Bond route by simply recasting the role with Tom Hardy. This entry sees the titular character pair up with Charlize Theron’s wildly named Imperator Furiosa to outrun savage bandits on their tail.
Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Elizabeth Banks
Synopsis
:
Guess after making close to US$115 million and being well received by fans and critics 2012’s Pitch Perfect necessitates a sequel. Anna Kendrick and her gang of misfit singers head for The World Championship of A Cappella. I can already see the cross cultural hilarity ensue. The most interesting part about this cash-grab effort might be what actress-producer-and-now-director Elizabeth Banks brings to the screen.
George Clooney, Britt Robertson, Hugh Laurie, Judy Greer
Synopsis
:
The buzz for this might be light but with someone like Brad Bird (of Iron Giant, The Incredibles and Mission:Impossible – Ghost Protocol fame) helming this might be the one that sneaks up on audiences. Developed together with Damon Lindelof, this stars George Clooney as a mysterious inventor spurred by a curious young girl (Britt Robertson) into journeying back to Tomorrowland.
Not another reboot! Live with it. The Tobe Hopper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) directed and Steven Spielberg produced first 1982 version will live on in infamy for the premature and shocking deaths of some cast members. The short lived horror franchise is hoping for a second inning with horror pedigree Sam Raimi producing. Sam Rockwell plays a dad desperately seeking his daughter who has been abducted by paranormal beings.
Dwayne Johnson, Alexandra Daddario, Carla Gugino, Paul Giamatti
Synopsis
:
The Rock vs The Rock. Sort of. Disaster movies were popular in the 70’s with hits such as The Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure and were somewhat resurrected in the 90’s with movies such as Dante’s Peak and most of Roland Emmerich’s filmography. San Andreas features Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a pilot of a rescue helicopter desperately trying to save his ex-wife (Carla Gugino) and daughter (Alexandra Daddario) and countless others when a massive earthquake hits California.
Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams, Jay Baruchel, Alec Baldwin, Danny McBride
Synopsis
:
Cameron Crowe was the critics darling after the one-two knockouts of 1996’s Jerry Maguire and 2000’s Almost Famous. Since then it is arguable that he has delivered anything remotely as loved. Fortunately for him he has assembled an incredible cast lead by two of America’s current sweethearts Emma Stone and Bradley Cooper. This light romance sees a fledgling military contractor down on his luck return to Hawaii to rejunevate his career and love life. Seeing Eastbound and Down’s Danny McBride play it almost straight might worth the price of admission alone.
